West Ham United manager David Moyes praised Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea after his side lost 1-0 at Old Trafford.

The 31-year-old was in formidable form against the Hammers, and he pulled off two world-class saves to ensure Erik ten Hag’s side secured a crucial three points.

United’s number one denied Kurt Zouma and Declan Rice in the latter stages of the game at the Theatre of Dreams to pick up his fifth Premier League clean sheet of the season.

The twenty-time league champions haven’t conceded a goal at Old Trafford since Real Sociedad won our Europa League Group E opener in early September.

De Ge was pictured embracing Ten Hag at the end of the game, and the former Ajax manager will no doubt be delighted that his number one came up trumps to get his team over the line.

Irons boss Moyes, who managed De Gea during his brief spell in charge of Manchester United, was left in disbelief at the quality of De Gea’s saves to deny both Zouma and Rice.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the Scotsman said: “David de Gea was fantastic, we know how good a goalkeeper he is.

“The two he saved have been worldies. I am pleased for him; he is a great guy.”

The former Atletico Madrid youngster shrugged off the disappointment of not being included in Spain’s provisional World Cup squad by producing an inspired performance.

De Gea remains one of the best shot stoppers in world football and with him starting to add different facets to his goalkeeping arsenal, he could slowly but surely be convincing Ten Hag that he could be the man to help lead Manchester United into a new era of success.

Aside from Phil Jones, who wasn’t named in United’s Premier League squad, De Gea is the only other remaining player who was part of United’s last Premier League winning squad nine years ago.
