West Ham are looking to utilise their Declan Rice money, with countless names being thrown about, one of which is Harry Maguire.
Maguire has long been tipped with a summer move to the London Stadium, along with his teammate Scott McTominay.
The pair would be available for less than the figure the Hammers received for Rice, and would be a great move for them.
This is a sentiment shared by West Ham legend, Tony Cottee who revealed he would “welcome” both.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Cottee spoke of his preference that Maguire be signed, but admitted he likes McTominay.
Cottee on Maguire
Featuring as a guest on talkSPORT, Cottee was quizzed over his views on several players that David Moyes could be bringing in.
On Maguire he said: “Personally I think Harry Maguire would be a good signing for us at centre-half, I think he would bring that experience and he’s a good player,”
Cottee continued that he could even see Maguire stepping straight into a leadership role or even immediately becoming captain.
MORE UNITED STORIES
“He’s lost his way a bit at United we know that but he could come in and even go and straightaway be captain, we are looking for a captain as well over at West Ham.”
This however could be the last thing Maguire wants right now in his career, after three horrid years as skipper at Old Trafford.
West Ham could make the same mistake as United
These comments from Cottee, could be a nightmare for Maguire to hear as he probably wants nothing to do with captaincy again.
Despite holding the armband at United for three-and-a-half years, Maguire wasn’t really captain in anything but title.
He was constantly in the back seat to proper leaders in the side such as Bruno Fernandes and the armband seemed more a detriment to him than anything.
Therefore while Maguire could be a brilliant signing for West Ham, considering him as captain, would be a huge mistake and could be too much for him to deal with.
Especially in the wake of being stripped publicly as he has been at United this summer.
