Arsene Wenger says Alexis Sanchez is likely to complete his move to Manchester United within the next 24 hours.
“That is a story very well documented. I have not a lot to add to that. It can happen, it can as well not happen,” Wenger said. “If it doesn’t happen, he can play for us on Saturday. It is likely that the transfer will happen within the next 24 hours.”
Sanchez is widely reported to have agreed terms ahead of a move to United and the apparent hitch in the transfer is Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s willingness to move in the other direction.
News of United’s interest broke last week but the deal has stalled due to these related complications. However, one of those – Arsenal’s supposed wage structure – has been dismissed by Wenger, who says that the club are willing to pay the Armenian playmaker what he wants.
If United are to include Sanchez in their squad to play at Burnley, they must conclude the signing ahead of the deadline for registration tomorrow.
Jose Mourinho appears to have a clear run at Sanchez after Manchester City briefed the press that they have dropped out of the running, citing their disappointment that they thought they had agreed a deal with the Chile international despite not being legally permitted to have done so. Chelsea were rumoured to have been interested but instead they have targeted Andy Carroll.
