Arsene Wenger told press ‘yes, of course’ when asked if Mesut Ozil would still be at Arsenal in February.
Manchester United are set to announce the signing of Alexis Sanchez in what has been a surprise, whirlwind transfer, yet they have been more strongly linked with Sanchez’s teammate.
Ozil is out of contract at the end of the season but there was the theory that United may try and accelerate that deal too in order to wrap business up. However, Arsenal boss Wenger insists the German international will stay for the rest of the season.
Wenger has reportedly been more optimistic about his chances of persuading Ozil to sign a new deal to remain in London and it is believed that he will use funds to buy new attacking players this month in order to convince his remaining star name to stay.
Jose Mourinho and Man Utd will be more relaxed about that scenario, believing they already have convinced Ozil to move, and would prefer to get him on a free transfer as they have cover in the number 10 role.
