Wayne Rooney had Bruno Fernandes as a special guest on his podcast this week when he told the Manchester United captain about the best aspect of his game.

After over six years of service as a talisman, Bruno Fernandes has an incredible reputation at Manchester United.

It’s a shame that Fernandes has been unable to win the Premier League yet, but that remains a dream for the Portugal international, who turned down advances from the Saudi Pro League last year.

Fernandes is renowned for his creativity, work ethic and leadership – so it was interesting to hear United’s greatest goalscorer, Wayne Rooney, have his say on some of the midfielder’s key traits.

Wayne Rooney admires Bruno Fernandes’ risk-taking ability

Unlike other players, Fernandes is willing to take risks on the pitch. That is how he creates so many memorable moments in matches for United and Portugal.

Rooney believes Fernandes is currently in the best form he’s ever been in for United, with the team on course to secure Champions League qualification.

Fernandes has played a huge role in that push, especially with Michael Carrick deploying him further in the No.10 role following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal in January.

“I think you’re in the best form you’ve been in for Manchester United,” Rooney said on The Wayne Rooney Show.

“And it is a joy watching you play. And the best thing I like about you is you take a risk. You’re not scared to give the ball away. I think that’s a big skill to have.”

Other players tend to play it safer on the pitch, whereas Fernandes is always looking to find a way in behind the defence to aid his attacking teammates.

Fernandes will be keen to show his key traits for the remainder of the season, with five games left to play.

Where does playing Bruno Fernandes in a deeper role rank among Ruben Amorim’s mistakes?

What surprised Bruno Fernandes most about Michael Carrick?

While Fernandes deserves lots of credit for United’s improved run of form, Carrick arguably deserves the biggest mention.

The midseason change in management helped United get back on track.

Speaking to Rooney about what surprised him most about Carrick, who Fernandes worked with previously at the club, he added: “We have got very good results. This league is so tough and at this moment, we are in the best position we could be.

“When Michael came in, we never thought at this moment, we would be third.”
