Manchester United’s all-time top goalscorer Wayne Rooney is reportedly set to take over at Birmingham City after departing DC United in the MLS.
After doing a good job at Derby County, despite the team being relegated, Wayne Rooney decided to move to America but has now resigned barely a year after being appointed.
In his statement about his decision to leave the club, Rooney said he wanted a return to England, and that now seems likely with a move to the Midlands on the cards.
As well as this, the iconic Manchester United forward is rumoured to be bringing a former Red Devils icon as part of his coaching staff.

O’Shea to join coaching staff
According to Aaron Paul of BBC Radio 5 Live, John O’Shea, alongside former Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole, is set to join the Englishman’s backroom staff.
O’Shea has had previous coaching roles with Stoke City and Reading and is currently an assistant coach of Stephen Kelly for the Republic of Ireland national team.
Birmingham are set to part ways with John Eustace, despite such a good start to the season, and he has been linked with more high-profile jobs according to the Daily Mail.
Rooney’s name is surprisingly the front-runner for the role if Eustace does leave, with new owners Knighthead Capital, led by Tom Wagner keen on a bigger name in charge.
Wayne Rooney managerial prospects
The English striker, who is a United legend, has had a decent start to his managerial career, gaining experience in tough circumstances in the Championship and MLS.
Back in April of 2022, he was reportedly offered the chance to be part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff when the Dutchman was appointed at United but rejected that chance according to StrettyNews.
The Englishman seemingly has a managerial career goal in mind when he was asked by Sky Sports in 2022.
“Of course I would,” he replied when asked if he would take the United job if asked.
“At the minute obviously my focus is on Derby County and staying up [in the Championship], but Manchester United and Everton are the two clubs that are very close to me.”
