Manchester United’s all-time top scorer Wayne Rooney has reacted to the news that Cristiano Ronaldo will be leaving the club with immediate effect by mutual agreement.
England’s all-time top scorer, who struck up a deadly partnership with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner during their trophy-filled time playing under Sir Alex Ferguson, was one of several people connected to Manchester United who was heavily criticised by the 37-year-old during his two-part interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV.
DC United’s manager has repeatedly called out Ronaldo’s behaviour at Old Trafford when required and like his former teammate Gary Neville, he also felt that Ronaldo and Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United were best of cutting ties with one and other.
Ronaldo claimed that the retired Rooney was not only jealous that he was still playing at an elite level, but also couldn’t resist referring to his looks when mocking the former England international.

Following his emotional return to Old Trafford last summer from Juventus, Portugal’s captain scored 24 goals across all competitions and was United’s top scorer.
But after failing to secure a summer move to a Champions League club, Ronaldo quickly realised that he wasn’t guaranteed of a start under new boss Erik ten Hag.
United’s former number seven was suspended for the draw against Chelsea last month after refusing to come on against Tottenham Hotspur and leaving Old Trafford early.
In his interview with Morgan, Ronaldo revealed that he felt “betrayed” by the twenty-time league champions and that he had no respect for Ten Hag.
Following his damming and disrespectful comments, Rooney felt there was no way back for the man he describes as one of the greatest players of all time.
Speaking on Sports18, Rooney said: “I’ve said it many times, he’s one of the best players of all time. It’s sad to see it end this way, but I think there was no other choice after his interview and the way he attacked the club.
“Am I surprised? No. There was no other choice but that’s a shame because he’s been a fantastic servant to the club.
“I wish him the best wherever he goes.”
