Wayne Rooney has provided Manchester United with extra motivation ahead of this weekend’s Manchester Derby. The legendary striker has insisted that victory for United would put Erik ten Hag in a title race.
Manchester United have quietly built a little bit of form over the past few weeks, despite performances being poor, the results have been coming.
While it is worrying to see such poor performances, with players like Andre Onana and Harry Maguire finding form lately, the feeling is that improvements are near.
United’s two most scrutinised players in recent months both performed excellently midweek against Copenhagen. Maguire and Onana were both named in the Champions League team of the week.
Now, former United striker Wayne Rooney has discussed his feelings on the huge derby game.

Wayne Rooney on Manchester Derby
Speaking on Sky Sports News, Rooney explained the game is massive before adding extra incentive for United.
“For both clubs, I think it’s obviously a massive game it’s a derby.” “I think what we are seeing now is, Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool and City, I think they’re all challenging for the Premier League.
Rooney continued to say: “Manchester United if they win this game could put themselves back in there and that’s how crucial this game is so hopefully United win.”
A win moves Manchester United just three points behind City, so Rooney has a point which shows how quickly a season can turn around. Plenty of reasons for United to be positive ahead of kick-off.
Massive game for both sides
The game is so important for both sides and it can’t be understated.
For City a win keeps them right up there with the rest of the front-runners and also cements the end to their poor form.
Meanwhile United can make it four consecutive wins in all competitions which would also make the season revival on track.
A massive game which is set for Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon… let’s hope we see United finally come alive.
