Continuing our look back on the Munich Air Disaster ahead of the 60th anniversary – the BBC News report from the evening go 6th February, 1958.
The report, read by Kenneth Kendall, is a sombre reflection of a nation in shock and trying to come to terms with the terrible news.
It features an interview with then-England manager Walter Winterbottom.
Winterbottom made a bold declaration, saying that he felt United could go on.
Former United captain Johnny Carey is interviewed and speaks about how he is ‘shocked to the core’. “All heads are bowed in Manchester tonight, but Manchester United will live on,” Carey said in an emotional statement.
