Victor Lindelof says win was ‘proud day’ on his 200th game as Manchester United player

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof made his first Premier League start of the season in the win over Everton.

Lindelof was a substitute against City last week, coming on for the injured Raphael Varane. With Harry Maguire out too, he temporarily jumped the queue.

The Swede performed well against Everton, and will have given manager Erik ten Hag something to think about, even with Varane now fit again, coming on as a late substitute to help close out the game.

United won 2-1 at Everton, seeing off a period of late pressure to come away with all three points.

Lindelof’s 200th game as a Manchester United player

This was a milestone match for Victor Lindelof as it was his 200th game as a Manchester United player, following his move to the club in 2017.

The defender sent a message on Instagram from the club coach after the game, expressing that this was a ‘proud day’ on a personal level.

The fact this milestone came in a win, in which he started, will have made it even more satisfying.

Lindelof’s performance was a calm one, with United in control for most of the match after Everton’s early opener.

The centre-back completed 94 per cent of his passes, more than any player on the pitch, with 62 of 66 passes complete.

He made 10 passes into the final third, while making four clearances and two interceptions.

Raphael Varane will be back in contention to start against Newcastle next weekend, but with a big league game against Tottenham the following Wednesday, and then Chelsea on the Saturday, United will need to rotate, and Lindelof has shown Erik ten Hag he can rely on him.
