Veteran Man Utd star who was ‘fully angry about everything’ breaks silence on what he ‘did’ amid Ruben Amorim’s reign

A Manchester United first-team player has admitted that he would not say that he ‘regrets’ what he did under Ruben Amorim in the 2024-25 season at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim oversaw the majority of Manchester United’s campaign last season after he arrived from Sporting CP last November and replaced Erik ten Hag.

Erik ten Hag’s reign as United manager ended with his sacking last October, with the Red Devils’ form fully dropping off a cliff in the 2024-25 Premier League season.

United manager Amorim was unable to turn around the Red Devils’ languishing form in the previous campaign and the Premier League club finished 15th in the table.

However, the 40-year-old Portuguese coach saw better success in the 2024-25 Europa League run, with United meeting Tottenham in the 2025 final in May.

United would fall short to Spurs on the night in Bilbao and Tottenham lifted the Europa League trophy at the San Mames Stadium after a 1-0 win.

England star Luke Shaw reveals his true feelings after Man Utd’s 2025 Europa League final defeat to Tottenham

Luke Shaw suffered another injury-hit campaign at Old Trafford and the England defender was reduced to only 12 appearances across all competitions last season.

However, the 30-year-old Red Devils left-back managed to play the full 90 minutes of Manchester United’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham in Spain.

Luke Shaw disappointed for the Red Devils on the night in Bilbao and the United defender pulled no punches after the defeat in his post-match interview.

The England international has explained that he was “fully angry about everything” at the time and admitted that he had an “awful” 2025 after his injury setbacks.

“I wouldn’t say I regret what I said but straight after the game, your head is hot, you say things and don’t think about it,” he said, as per BBC Sport.

“A lot of people, after that final, and after that year, didn’t know how the next season was going to look, we have to be open and honest about that. None of us were good enough.

“I had such an awful year as well. I was just fully angry about everything. That’s why I did the interview and said what I said.”

What exactly did Luke Shaw say after Man Utd vs Tottenham in the 2025 Europa League final?

Luke Shaw didn’t shy away from speaking what was on his mind in May and the Three Lions international slammed United’s performance in the final against Spurs.

“It’s hard to put into words the season, but I think for a club like Manchester United it’s not really good enough,” he said in his post-match interview, as per ESPN.

“I think definitely me, and I think all of us have to question ourselves tonight.

“Are we good enough to be here? Because this club, this season, it’s not acceptable. We know that and it’s down to us.

“I think it’s really tough to take. I think we have to look at ourselves. Something has to change.”

He added: “I think everyone knew how big this game was.

“It’s extremely damaging. We’ll have to stand up and take the criticism. Because like I said, us as players, it’s not been nowhere near good enough for a club like Manchester United.

“We take full responsibility, but I’d just like to say sorry to them for this season.”

Shaw is currently away from Old Trafford with his United first-team teammates in the United States as part of the Red Devils’ pre-season tour this summer.
