Varane talks up Elanga ahead of Atletico clash

Anthony Elanga grabbed Manchester United’s equaliser in the first leg of their Champions League tie with Atletico Madrid.

That was the biggest goal of his career so far and underlined his importance to Ralf Rangnick’s side following his breakthrough.

It remains to be seen whether Elanga starts the game tonight, having been brought off the bench in Madrid and on Saturday against Tottenham.

Elanga is on better form than Marcus Rashford out wide and Raphael Varane has been singing the winger’s praises in an interview with club media.

“He is improving, he is very young but he has the right mentality and a good mentality to improve and express his quality.

“He is extremely fast, he has a good finish so he is really helping the team and he is always positive.

“He tries to do his best and he is very important for us this season.”

Varane has been there and done it in terms of Champions League success and that experience will be invaluable on nights like tonight.

The Frenchman can help the likes of Elanga through the game, although the superkid seems like he is fearless right now and enjoying his football.

On form, Elanga gets one of the wide berths in this United side, it is just a case of whether Rangnick throws him in on such a big night.

The German played Victor Lindelof as a narrow right-back in the first leg which was a surprise and it did not really work.

It is imperative that he gets his selection and tactics right at Old Trafford on a night which could come to define the season.
