Rasmus Hojlund is set to sign for Manchester United. He comes with a hefty fee, which has led to scrutiny from fans. However, a stat has proven we shouldn’t be too worried about the price tag.
Fabrizio Romano broke the news yesterday that United had finally come to an agreement with Atalanta for the transfer of Hojlund. The Athletic were then quick to jump on with details, stating that the deal was worth €75million (£64m) plus €10m (£8.5m) in performance-related add-ons.
It is a hefty fee for a 20-year-old. This has left many making immediate comparisons, specifically to Erling Halaand who obviously had a ridiculous goal-scoring record at Hojlund‘s age.
Nevertheless, a stat that sees Hojlund rank higher than many elite forwards proves that United are getting a top talent.

Rasmus Hojlund season goals at 19 compared to other elite strikers
Here is a statistic, gathered by Twitter user StateOfFooty, which showcases some of Europe’s most clinical forwards and their goal tallies at the age of 19 in all competitions.
Now this stat doesn’t necessarily take into account how much these players were sold for. But it’s a good indication that Hojlund shouldn’t be judged until he does the business in a Manchester United shirt.
MORE UNITED STORIES
As the list suggests, some of Europe’s top strikers only hit their peaks when moving to a bigger club. Or, in fact, gaining some valuable experience.
The footballing world has been blinded by Erling Haaland’s ridiculous goal-scoring record, which is abnormal for any player.
A different perspective
We need to look more at the potential Hojlund has, rather than where he’s at in the current moment.
Watching his style of play, he possesses lightning-quick pace, has great physical hold-up play and isn’t afraid to take on a man.
These are all excellent qualities in a striker and will only develop under Erik ten Hag’s masterful guidance.
We’re mega excited to finally have a striker on board. Let’s hope he hits the ground running for the Red Devils.
