Donny van de Beek did not have the career he was anticipating when he joined Manchester United in the summer of 2020.
Signed by Ole Gunnar Solksjaer for a measly £35m, he looked set to be the next world-beater around Old Trafford, particularly when he bagged on his Premier League debut.
But after two seasons of struggling to make an impact on the first-team squad, sadly Donny’s future at the club looked all but sealed – in the sense he didn’t have one.
Now, the Dutchman has been on various loans trying to recapture his form of old, which have all failed miserably. He’s set to return to Carrington in the summer, but will then likely be sold for good.
Still, Donny can look back on some fond memories in Manchester. He got to play with some world-class players, one of which he believes is the ‘most underrated player he’s played with’.

Donny van de Beek on the ‘most underrated player he’s ever played with’
As he’s in the Netherlands, Donny took part in a quickfire interview with the Ajax social media team. He was asked a series of questions regarding the Dutch football club, and his career so far.
At one stage, the interviewer asked the 27-year-old, who is the ‘most underrated player he’s played with?’ Van de Beek responded without hesitation: “Luke Shaw. Very underrated player. He’s very good!”
Van de Beek is a huge fan of Shaw, it appears. He is right, Shaw maybe doesn’t get the credit he deserves in football – but that does come down to one thing.
Luke Shaw without injuries could have been an all-timer
Sadly, a career hampered by injuries means that Shaw never probably reached his full potential. At United alone, Shaw has had 24 injuries, missing a bucketload of games.
Now, sadly this looks to be his demise going forward. He’s not getting any younger – that’s for sure.
He is at real risk of missing the FA Cup Final and Euro 2024. It’s better perhaps he just rests up and focuses on his recovery for next season.
