Van de Beek 'likes' Frenkie de Jong holiday picture

Frenkie de Jong is enjoying a holiday in America while Manchester United and Barcelona negotiate over his future.

The Dutchman’s latest message was ‘liked’ by Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek, De Jong’s former Ajax and Netherlands teammate.

This was the first Instagram post of De Jong’s ‘liked’ by Van de Beek since the Barcelona midfielder was first linked to the Red Devils in May.

Van de Beek has not been in any of the Netherlands squads all season due to his lack of game time at club level.

He will be hoping new manager Erik ten Hag can change his fortunes, his former Ajax boss, and potentially, De Jong too.

The pair were part of the same Ajax side which reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2019, and we this week listed Van de Beek as one of the United players who would benefit most from De Jong’s arrival.

United are currently short of Barcelona’s asking price for De Jong, and there doesn’t seem to be any urgency to conclude a deal, despite players returning for pre-season next Monday.

Van de Beek will be among those making an early return, although De Jong would not be eligible to train until July due to his international involvement.

For now, he is enjoying his holiday, and waiting to see whether he will be jetting back to Barcelona, or flying straight to Manchester, and reuniting with Van de Beek and Ten Hag.
