United youngster Nathan Bishop targeting promotion with Mansfield Town
Manchester United loanee Nathan Bishop admits helping Mansfield Town achieve promotion this season would “mean the world” to him.
The 22-year-old has been ever present for Nigel Clough’s side this season, featuring in every senior league and cup match.
The Stags are unbeaten in their last 12 League Two matches and currently sit seventh in the table, which is the last play-off place.
However, with games in hand on the sides above them, automatic promotion isn’t out of reach for Clough’s side with 16 league games remaining.
Speaking to iFollow Stags, Mansfield’s number one said: “For me it’s about playing games, getting the most minutes I can and really pushing on to develop myself as a person, as a man and learning my trade.
“It would mean the world to me [to get promoted with Mansfield]. Since I signed for this club, it has been absolutely one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had.
“Even at the beginning of the season when it wasn’t going all our way, it was tough but the fanbase and everyone around [the club] just keeps it positive.”
Bishop has only conceded three goals from his last seven league games and has eight League Two clean sheets to his name so far this season.
The former Southend United youngster’s first loan move away from Old Trafford has been a massive success and Bishop is loving playing regular football at senior level.
Bishop added: “I’m really enjoying it and from a personal perspective being a keeper at this club and this team is really exciting.”
If Nathan Bishop does manage to secure promotion with the Stags then it’s highly likely that Clough will want the United stopper back at the club on another season-long loan in League One.
That decision will rest with Manchester United, but with Bishop loving his time at the One Call Stadium, his development will only continue to be aided by getting minutes on the pitch.
