Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga is looking forward to linking up with summer signing Christian Eriksen.

The Danish playmaker became the club’s latest free transfer signing after choosing to join Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils over re-signing with Brentford.

The 30-year-old will add quality, control and creativity to United’s midfield and he became Ten Hag’s second signing.

Eriksen, who has impressed during spells with Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan, could make his Manchester United debut against Atletico Madrid on 30 July, or against Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford the following day.

Eriksen will become the third Scandinavian player in the first-team squad, alongside Swedes Elanga and Victor Lindelof, and United’s number 36 is delighted about that.

In his 11 appearances for the Bees last season, Eriksen scored one goal and provided four assists.

Since the 2013-14 Premier League season which was the campaign that Eriksen was signed by Spurs, only Kevin de Bruyne (86) has provided more assists than the 115-time Denmark international (66).

Elanga, a player who is willing to run in-behind and stretch defences like he did to devastating effect against Atletico Madrid, is relishing the prospect of playing alongside the ‘special’ Eriksen.

Speaking to the club’s website about Eriksen’s arrival, the Sweden international said: “He’s a special player, a really good player and I’ve played against him.

“I had the honour to play against him last season and you could see his qualities from there.

“I feel like he’ll be a great contributor to the team.

“I’m really looking forward to playing with him and hopefully he’ll put some balls in behind for me to run on to. That will be nice!”

With midfield marvels Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes providing the ammunition, as well as the potential arrival of Netherlands technician Frenkie de Jong, Manchester United’s pacey forward line could be given ample chances to find the back of the net this season.
