Manchester United forward James Wilson is set to leave the club on loan in January, with Sheffield United interested in bringing him in.

Wilson’s reputation as a striker in his younger days was impressive indeed and he seemed to have a fantastic chance of being one of the rare strikers who came through United’s academy to have a serious chance of making it in the first team.

However it hasn’t quite worked out for the 22 year old. Managerial changes, serious injuries and questions about his application have all had a negative impact on the youngster’s chances of first team football while his loan spells at Brighton and Derby have hardly been a success.

Sheffield United are in need of some inspiration as they seek to put their promotion campaign back on track and it could be just the environment for a forward in need of form and confidence – the Blades are interested in Wilson on a loan basis and Jose Mourinho is unlikely to obstruct the deal.
