The Transfer Window ™ is shut, slammed close, etc. Manchester United signed just two players to strengthen their first team squad this summer, with youngster Diogo Dalot joining Fred, while Lee Grant signed to provide back up as a senior goalkeeper.

Despite Jose Mourinho’s hopes to sign Willian, Toby Alderweireld and a left back, Ed Woodward was unable to complete any further deal.

And in news that is sure to frustrate most United supporters coming to terms with getting behind the squad they have, and resolving to do so by hoping the defence will be freshened up from within, one of the club’s most talented youngsters is going to leave the club on loan.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah – a contender to play at centre half, but most probably at right back, considering United’s options – has arrived at Premier League newcomers Fulham to agree a season long loan after spending last year on loan at Selhurst Park.

Fosu-Mensah is popular with United fans after breaking onto the scene at the same time as Marcus Rashford. His loan spell at Crystal Palace seemed like a sensible option but he found his football hard to come by with the management changes at Palace; it was hoped that he would be in contention for United this summer, as he surely has the quality to make an impression in that area.

The move will be confirmed by United later today and is sure to be received with criticism following a very underwhelming transfer window.
