Manchester United have been put off from appointing Michael Edwards as sporting director for one reason, according to reports.
A new director of football at Manchester United may well be in the offing sooner rather than later with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos hard at work to make sure they get this appointment right.
With Omar Berrada already through the door at United, following his appointment as CEO from Manchester City, a new director of football is next with doubts remaining over the future of John Murtough.
One name who has been linked with the United role is former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards.

Edwards rejection
Despite the fierce reputation that Edwards built at Liverpool and how brilliant he would be for the Old Trafford club, a report from FootballTransfers has detailed why the Red Devils will not pursue a deal.
According to the report, United will not pursue a deal for Edwards any further because they have been informed the director would demand £12 million a year.
Following the revelation of this news, perhaps unsurprisingly, talks reached an impasse and Ineos are now moving for Paul Mitchell.
Mitchell, according to the report, remains the club’s preferred target for the position and the Englishman is also available due to him leaving Monaco in August.
Liverpool also reportedly made a move for Edwards but he turned down their approach, so United will have to move on from the former figurehead of the transfer regime at Anfield.
Ineos unhappy with Ten Hag
The news of a new sporting director at Old Trafford is perhaps of little surprise as the same report states that those at Ineos are unhappy with Ten Hag’s recruitment.
They are ‘baffled’ over some of the signings made at the club in recent seasons and are prepared for a ‘fresh’ start in the summer.
Ten Hag’s future at the club is already a huge question mark due to the results on the pitch and that’s before you look at the transfer decisions made off it.
