United loanee James Garner has 4 goal contributions from his last 6 games

Manchester United loanee James Garner continued his rich vein of form with a dominant performance against Bristol City.

After back-to-back Championship draws, Steve Cooper’s side were eager to get back to winning ways and get their play-off charge back on track.

Garner nearly registered an assist in the first half when Steve Cook volleyed an effort on goal from a Garner corner.

Then United’s academy graduate finished exquisitely to double his side’s lead with a first time finish, just outside the penalty area, into the bottom corner.

The goal against Bristol City was Garner’s fourth goal involvement in six matches.

The England under-21 international is clearly enjoying his football and is in the midst of a real purple patch.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand stated last week that he believes Garner will ask whether he will be part of the Manchester United first team next season when he reports for pre-season.

Forest’s number 37 finished the clash against Bristol City with 61 touches and three key passes. Only teammate Keinan Davis (5) created more chances than Garner.

He completed both of his dribbles and completed four crosses, as well as four accurate long balls.

At the heart of everything, the 20-year-old also registered six ball recoveries and won six ground duels.

Garner’s finish saw him come in for high praise from his manager.

Cooper told the club’s website: “I loved the second goal. There were a lot of passes involved, a lot of ball circulation and it was a great finish by Jimmy.”

NottinghamshireLive gave Garner an 8.5/10 rating and their summary on the midfielder stated: “Another well-taken goal to add to his collection, on an afternoon where he again showed his class.

“Cool and composed whenever he had the ball, looking to get on the front foot.”

Forest travel to fellow play-off hopefuls Sheffield United on Friday before hosting Huddersfield Town a week on Monday, in the FA Cup fifth-round.
