Manchester United loanee Amad opened the scoring for Sunderland in their first game since the World Cup pause against Millwall.
In the EFL, League One and League Two carried on throughout the World Cup, while the Championship stopped until the end of the group stage.
Amad was part of the Sunderland squad who went to Dubai for a training camp in the time without domestic fixtures, and he scored the winner in their last friendly before coming back to England.
Sunderland hosted Millwall at the Stadium of Light and Amad was the man who broke the deadlock in the 3-0 win.

Before the break, Amad had three goals and an assist to show for his last five Championship games and picked up where he left off.
Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray warned United that Amad would be better served staying at the club until the rest of the season.
He told the Northern Echo: “If he was to go back, then I’m not sure he’d be going back to play, and surely at the age the boy is, he needs to play.
“He’s doing that here, and I think this is a great vehicle for him to be showcasing his talent. He’s helping our team to be successful, and he’s showcasing his talent to Man United.”
“I know he’s enjoying it – you can see that by the smile on his face every day now, as opposed to a month ago, when he was quite a shy, introverted individual.
“Now, his talent is flourishing and he’s enjoying himself, and I’m sure he’s not in any rush to go back.”
Amad’s latest performance seemed to prove that and it is good to see him finally playing regularly and scoring goals in English football.
United are a bit short of forward options after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, but unless Amad is going to play a lot upon any potential recall, he should be left where he is.
