United left embarrassed again as sold £15m attacker continues to outscore entire strikeforce

Erik ten Hag and Manchester United have once again been embarrassed with another former player excelling.

Anthony Elanga left Manchester United in the summer as a move to Steve Cooper’s Nottingham Forest was in the offing with the Midlands side paying £15 million to sign the Swedish international.

Well, that decision looks to have been a mistake as the 21-year-old continues to perform at a high level for Forest despite Cooper’s recent sacking.

Elanga could well have been a key squad player had he remained at Old Trafford and been given the chance to perform at United but Erik ten Hag decided that the time was right to ditch the academy graduate.

Elanga excels

Despite losing 2-1 to Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth, Elanga scored first for Forest and was a threat for the home side throughout but the visitors had too much for Elanga and his teammates.

Ten Hag has a winger issue at this moment in time with Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, and Marcus Rashford all struggling for form and Amad Diallo out injured.

Jadon Sancho remains exiled from the United first team and it doesn’t look like the Englishman will be coming back into the first team with a move away from the club being lined up, Juventus look to be one of the teams interested.

The winger scored for Forest in the defeat and the goal was not too dissimilar to the chance that Garnacho had for the Red Devils against West Ham United but the Swedish forward took his chance.

United made a mistake

The Red Devils have made countless mistakes in the transfer market. The sale of Elanga is certainly one that the Red Devils look set to live to regret.

With four goals and three assists for the Midlands club this season, Elanga has performed admirably in a side that has struggled for consistency and have found themselves languishing near the relegation places.

Elanga has more Premier League goals than United attacker this season, with Marcus Rashford’s paltry tally of two the highest.

Selling the Swede looked to be a shrewd decision at the time but that has proven to be a mistake and Elanga could well have offered something different for the Red Devils had he been kept around.
