Tyrell Malacia says he is pleased he did not move to Club Brugge in 2021

Tyrell Malacia clinched his big move to Manchester United in the summer and has already become a first team regular.

Malacia has been one of United’s best players this season since his transfer from Feyenoord.

The Dutchman told Voetbal International that he was unhappy in 2021 when a proposed move to Club Brugge fell through.

Staying at Feyenoord another year, Malacia acknowledges circumstances have worked out for the best.

Malacia pleased he did not move to Club Brugge

Malacia’ stay at Feyenoord in 2021 was highly productive for him. He won acclaim for his Eredivisie performances, starring against Antony when his side took on Ajax.

He was also called up into the Netherlands international squad by Louis van Gaal, and reached the Europa Conference League final with Feyenoord.

These performances earned him a switch to Manchester United, with the Red Devils hijacking a proposed move to Lyon.

Malacia said: “You eventually learn to deal with setbacks. I wanted to go to Club Brugge. That did not go through and I resigned myself to that.

“You could say now that it is good that I did not go to Bruges then.”

Malacia was a bargain for United, costing just £13 million from Feyenoord. His value will already have risen after a strong start at Old Trafford.

Of all the deals United struck in the summer, the move for Malacia is the one the club should look to emulate.

This was a move for a young international star at a bargain price, an investment for the future who is already able to contribute right now.

If Malacia can keep up his form, and rally when there are inevitable setbacks, then he will continue to be viewed as an outstanding signing.
