Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia has praised Casemiro for a key gesture from the Brazilian defensive midfielder.

Dutch left-back Tyrell Malacia has been out of action for Manchester United for nearly 18 months now but looks to be closing in on a long-awaited return.

Malacia featured for United’s under-21s during the week with the former Feyenoord left-back playing 45 minutes for the Red Devils and he could be closing in on a first-team return.

During his time out from the United first team, the Red Devils beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final and it was a moment from Casemiro that has stuck with the full-back.

Casemiro’s gesture

In an interview with The Athletic, Malacia has opened up about his struggles dealing with injuries and mentioned Casemiro and described his great gesture.

After United’s memorable FA Cup victory over their arch rivals at Wembley Stadium, the players went up the famous stairs at the home of English football.

“I was like, ‘I’m staying down here and you guys just enjoy it, then I’ll see you in the dressing room’. He [Casemiro] was like, ‘Nah, you’ll have to go up there as well’.

“If someone with that kind of experience tells you that, you’re listening!”

Casemiro performed well under interim manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy and looks set to play a key role under Ruben Amorim and has proven he can be a reliable leader in the Old Trafford dressing room.

Malacia was celebrating with his United teammates after the FA Cup victory and he is set to return to the setup and could return quicker than Luke Shaw, which would be a sad indictment of the Englishman.

Casemiro could play a key role under Ruben Amorim

Despite the inconsistent performances under Erik ten Hag, the former Real Madrid midfielder improved under Van Nistelrooy and will hope to play a key role under Amorim.

With Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo options in the midfield, Casemiro may well find it difficult to break into that team if the Uruguayan performs as expected under his former manager.

The experience and winning knowhow that Casemiro offers the United team will be vital moving forward and he could play a key role before the end of the season.
