Manchester United stars Cristiano Ronaldo and David de Gea have been named in the BBC team of the week after helping the Red Devils beat Everton 2-1.

Erik ten Hag’s side got back to winning ways in the Premier League by coming from behind to beat the Toffees at Goodison Park on Sunday night.

The comeback win on Merseyside was the 100th time Manchester United had won a Premier League game after conceding the game’s first goal.

Both Ronaldo and De Gea played starring roles in ensuring the Dutchman’s side saw off Frank Lampard’s men.

Just two appearances away from racking up 500 appearances for Manchester United, De Gea produced an assured and calming performance, which will no doubt encourage Ten Hag.

The 31-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of the season, raced off his line to play the role of sweeper keeper on a couple of occasions, and his distribution was on the whole faultless.

The Spaniard also came off his line to collect a cross, which was refreshing to see, as well as making a crucial save to deny former Red James Garner scoring on his Everton debut.

BBC pundit Garth Crooks named the former Atletico Madrid man in his side.

Crooks said: “When you’ve got De Gea in goal he will, on average, save you ten points a season – and in a good season even more.”

With Anthony Martial suffering yet another injury on the half hour mark, Ten Hag sent on Ronaldo to replace the Frenchman.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner responded in emphatic fashion and netted his 700th goal in his club career, which proved to be the winner.

The 37-year-old was played in on goal by his former Real Madrid teammate Casemiro before United’s number seven smashed the past England’s number one Jordan Pickford.

Speaking on Ronaldo, Crooks said: “The finish by Cristiano Ronaldo was as crisp as I’ve seen from the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

“It was as if the moment he was put through there was no doubt he would score.”

Having started the last six Premier League games on the bench, Portugal’s captain will no doubt be targeting his first top-flight start since mid-August when Manchester United host Newcastle United on Sunday.

But Ronaldo will first be looking to begin his march to number 800 by scoring against Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League on Thursday night.
