Two Manchester United players rightfully took their respective places in WhoScored’s Premier League Team of the Week after the 3-0 win over Southampton.
Erik ten Hag’s men walked away with all three points from their trip to the St Mary’s on Saturday, with Southampton being reduced to 10 men in the second half.
Manchester United fended off an early scare against Southampton in the first half, including Andre Onana denying Cameron Archer from the spot-kick.
Matthijs de Ligt, who was signed from Bayern Munich in the summer, opened the scoring for United at the St Mary’s with a towering header in the first half.
Marcus Rashford would double United’s advantage only six minutes later and Erik ten Hag’s side walked into half-time with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Alejandro Garnacho netted United’s third of the contest in injury time after he came off the bench in the second half, with Ten Hag picking up an important win.
Ten Hag had been under mounting pressure going into the Southampton match after United lost their last two league matches before the international break.
United are now 10th in the Premier League table after their opening four matches, with the Red Devils winning two and losing two under Ten Hag this season.

Man Utd stars in Team of the Week
WhoScored on X, formerly known as Twitter, revealed the 11 players who made its Premier League Team of the Week after the latest round of fixtures.
Matthijs de Ligt was one of two Manchester United players featured in the Team of the Week after his commanding performance against Southampton.
The 25-year-old Dutch centre-back bounced back at the St Mary’s after he was met with fierce criticism over his performance with the Netherlands against Germany.
De Ligt made a name for himself under Erik ten Hag at Ajax before the Netherlands international arrived at Old Trafford in the summer as part of a double signing.
Amad Diallo was the other United player to feature in WhoScored’s Team of the Week after an impressive Premier League display against Southampton.
The 22-year-old Ivorian winger played the full 90 minutes at the St Mary’s and Amad Diallo picked up his first assist in the Premier League this season.
Diallo’s score in the Premier League Team of the Week was 8.10, while fellow United teammate De Ligt received an overall rating of 8.95.
De Ligt narrowly missed out on the highest score in the Team of the Week, with Ipswich Town shot-stopper Arijanet Muric scoring the best overall with 8.98.
Ten Hag thrilled with Man Utd result
Speaking after the match, Ten Hag welcomed how United responded to the early Southampton attack at the St Mary’s before turning the tide back in their favour.
“First 20 minutes was hard, tough, but that is often [the case] in games, you have to get a foothold in the game,” he told MUTV, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“Once Andre stopped the penalty, straight after, we scored a goal with Matthijs de Ligt, the game was all ours and we dominate the game from that point.”
Ten Hag added: “I think we should have scored earlier on; we had the chances and we had the control, and we create some good chances to score the third goal earlier on.
“Of course, we are happy when you bring a sub on who has an impact and he [Garnacho] was the one who downsized the opponent to 10 with a good action and then a good finish.
“I think also the rest [of Garnacho’s performance], I was happy with this sub and that is how players should act from the bench and we need more from this.”
