Andre Onana’s stint with Turkish club Trabzonspor is already off to a rollercoaster ride.
After signing for Manchester United full of optimism in 2023, Andre Onana saw his career at the club come to an abrupt end.
Onana’s errors against Grimsby Town were the final straw, he was subsequently demoted and made available for loan.
United agreed a deal to send him on loan to Trabzonspor in Turkey where he has a fresh start, but it remains unclear where he will play in 2026-27 and beyond.

Andre Onana’s future
Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan spoke to a press conference this week about varying topics, and was quizzed over whether Andre Onana’s loan could become permanent.
Dogan responded to say that Trabzonspor were happy with Onana so far, but it would be difficult to match the fee Manchester United paid for him.
He said Trabzonspor will look into the possibility at the end of the season if the coaching staff are happy.
Dogan told local outlet 61Saat.com: “Onana has just joined us, and we and the technical team are pleased.
“He’s a player who cost his team €65 million, including bonuses. It’s impossible for Trabzonspor to make a transfer under those circumstances.
“If the technical staff is happy, we’ll see what we can do at the end of the year.”
Onana off to rollercoaster start
Andre Onana has had a bumpy start at Trabzonspor, where he did manage to impress in his debut for the club.
He then made headlines by providing an assist with a long ball upfield in his second game for the club, showcasing his passing range.
But over the past two matches, Onana has failed to make a single save, and conceded four goals.
Those are the type of numbers that could make Trabzonspor fall out of love with him very quickly.
There is no chance of United recouping the full fee paid for Onana from any club, but we do want to be in a scenario next season where there is a quick sale, and it does not drag on.
