1. Quinton Fortune
Undoubtedly the most successful African player to have represented Manchester United, Quinton Fortune arrived for £1.5m from Atletico Madrid to provide squad strength, primarily as back up for Ryan Giggs due to Jesper Blomqvist being injured. Fortune proved himself to be an adept utility man, playing in midfield and left back on many occasions.
In the six full seasons he played at the club, he appeared in three title-winning campaigns, though did not play enough games to win a medal in any of them! The club were able to get him a special dispensation award in 2003 as he played in nine games.
Overall, Fortune played 126 times for United, scoring 11 goals.
