Manchester United are said to be ready to make a decision whether to sign Toby Alderweireld next week, The Sun claim.

Alderweireld is available for a bargain price of £25 million thanks to a clause in his contract, The Guardian report.

Somewhat ludicrously it is claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is undecided whether he wants another centre-back despite the club’s obvious weakness in the position. Ed Woodward is reported to be pushing for Alderweireld.

Regardless of who really wants what, Alderweireld making a quick transfer to United should be the outcome.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

At just £25 million, the fee is a bargain for a player of his quality and experience.

One much touted alternative is Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly. But The Mail report the Serie A side want an outrageous £130 million for the 27-year-old.

Koulibaly would improve United’s defence, but so will Champions League finalist Alderweireld – for £105 million cheaper.

Alderweireld has only just turned 30. Sergio Ramos won the Champions League at 32 last season. The Belgian’s Premier League performances remain as strong as ever.

£25 million is such an outrageously good fee for a player of his quality, that it makes more sense for United to sign him than not.

The biggest argument against it would be if Mattijs de Ligt decides United is his preferred club. But there would still be a case to sign Alderweireld and double down, while weakening a rival too.
