United’s loss to Juventus was sadly predictable, with the performance mirroring recent efforts at Old Trafford.
As usual the team started badly and rallied in the second half. This time Juventus were too strong defensively to break down.
Paul Pogba was unlucky not to score when he hit the post from distance, but overall it simply was not good enough once again.
At the heart of United’s problems is a striker who cannot score, and does not look close to doing so.
Romelu Lukaku was awful. He had no shots, created no chances, and was cumbersome and immobile up front.

His form has been terrible for the past month and a spell out of the team would do him good.
Perhaps it’s the World Cup hangover, and he’s genuinely tired, but one way or another he needs to be dropped, with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial or even Alexis Sanchez tried up front.

Big signing needs to play

While Lukaku needs to be dropped, summer signing Fred needs to play.
He fell out of favour after scoring in his last home start against Wolves and hasn’t had a kick since the international break.
Last night the Brazilian was an unused substitute, with manager Jose Mourinho illogically making no changes at all when we were chasing the game.

The summer signing would help with United’s creativity problem and make the team less predictable.
It’s time to ring the changes. Lukaku out, Fred in.
