Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has been praised after a terrific performance in the win against Burnley.

The 20-year-old talent started his first ever Manchester United game, a reward for an impressive showing off the bench in the defeat to Brighton a week earlier.

Hannibal slotted right in, proving Erik ten Hag right to select him ahead of Christian Eriksen. He created two goalscoring chances and won 100 per cent of his tackles, with an all-round performance to help United win the game 1-0.

Captain Bruno Fernandes netted the winner, with Hannibal working hard to protect United’s lead and ensure the team secured the three points.

Hannibal Mejbri’s performance is drawing attention, with the youngster showing he belongs as part of the first team, and can be a valuable player this season.

Pundit and former top flight boss Tim Sherwood was impressed. He told Premier League Productions: “A real positive from the performance when I look at the individual performances for Man Utd Hannibal I thought was good.

“He was brave, I thought he looked for the ball wherever he was. Out of possession he looked like he was going with urgency wherever he was to go and get it back.

“I think he had a great game and he can only get better, I just hope he stays in the team. He earned the right rather than one of the superstars coming back and getting in ahead of him, which is not good for team morale and team spirit.”

International ace was ready for big stage

Manchester United have had high hopes for Hannibal for a while. He is a player who relishes the competitiveness of football games, embracing the combative side of the game, as well as possessing a superb array of passing.

A season on loan in the Championship last year helped him embrace the battling side of the game needed for an away tie at Turf Moor against Burnley.

It is also his time at international level with Tunisia which has helped prepare him for a step up in quality.

He has 26 caps for his country already, a very impressive figure at just the age of 20, and he looks set to be a big part of their future for years to come. He will hope to do the same for Manchester United, and his performance at the weekend was a big step in the right direction.
