Manchester United are looking for vast improvements this season, but Tim Howard is convinced by what he has seen from Ruben Amorim’s side in the United States on tour.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Tim Howard has jumped at the opportunity to catch up with his ex-club in the United States this summer.
The Red Devils flew to the US last week to take part in the Premier League Summer Series, beating West Ham 2-1 in the first game thanks to a brace from Bruno Fernandes.
Ruben Amorim has used the time to put his players through their paces ahead of the new season. The aim is for each player to reach peak fitness and sharpness before the competitive campaign gets underway.
New signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are with the squad, although the latter has yet to make his debut on tour. That should come against Bournemouth in United’s next friendly fixture this week.
The priority now is to ensure pre-season goes smoothly without any major injury setbacks.

Tim Howard impressed by Man Utd on tour
First impressions are important, and it sounds like United are working hard to fix their problems this summer.
Amorim only had six months with the team last season, ending in disaster after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham, but next season he will get more time to work with the players at Carrington training ground since there will be fewer midweek fixtures due to having no European football.
United can try to take advantage of that by using their time to prepare for league matches in the best way possible.
Howard caught up with MUTV on tour and offered his analysis of the team after watching them up close in training in Chicago.
Tim Howard quotes: “I don’t know if it’s the new season or additions/subtractions (transfers), this squad looks energised. They look lively and committed. It’s a short sample size, but I’m encouraged by what I think United can do this season.”
What did Howard win at Man Utd?
In 2003, Howard signed for United from MetroStars in the United States.
The goalkeeper spent four years at Old Trafford and won several trophies.
Howard won the FA Cup in 2004 and the League Cup in 2006.
The American stopper eventually signed for Everton, where he established himself as one of the most consistent performers in the top flight.
Howard works as a football pundit in the United States these days.
