Manchester United face Crystal Palace for the second time in five days, but there is one player we think needs to start, Alejandro Garnacho.

Alejandro Garnacho’s game-time has taken a direct hit due to Rasmus Hojlund‘s arrival at the club. The signing of the Danish striker has pushed Marcus Rashford onto the left-wing as the regular starter.

This has limited Garnacho to cameo appearances and cup games in which he has consistently thrived. In his displays, the Argentine has shown desire and passion which Manchester United fans were extremely impressed by.

It is because of these qualities, many have began to call for him to continue in the team on Saturday. Here are three reasons why he should…

Starting Garnacho could light a fire under Rashford

Marcus Rashford has looked disinterested in recent games as he jogs around without tracking back.

By contrast, Garnacho was pressing so intensely throughout the game which has left many fans impressed.

That along with his goal and excellent link-up play, Garnacho is deserving of a start based on recent form.

This could be what Rashford needs to kick himself into gear, so United should absolutely be looking to start Garnacho, for one reason or another.

Garnacho was top-tier v Palace on Tuesday

In the 3-0 win, Garnacho bagged the opening goal and was a real threat down the left, terrorising Nathaniel Clyne.

In fact it is one of the first times Garnacho has looked like a starter from the beginning of a game, which is the next step in his evolution.

He had 58 touches and completed 89% of passes as he held the width along with regularly dropping inside to assist with link ups.

He also won three duels as he tracked back all game long which will only continue to endear him in Ten Hag’s eyes.

Keeps Rashford fresh for Galatasaray

As much as we think Garnacho has been impressive and deserves the start, we also have to admit that Rashford is a clutch player.

With his injury issues in recent years, it is a luxury to be able to rest him for a vital Champions League clash.

The Champions League tie is one better suited to Rashford and he would be eager to impress in that game, so with a point to prove, he usually provides the goods.

So starting Garnacho against a side he has already shown he’s good enough to dominate makes sense, with Rashford rested fully for European football.
