Most Manchester United fans would love to see Erling Haaland at Old Trafford. The rest have been living under a rock. Because the Norwegian striker is the best young striker in Europe and he is only going to get better.

According to a recent report from Football London, Chelsea and Manchester City are competing with United for the 20-year-old.

Rumours persist that two of the Red Devils’ fiercest rivals could have an advantage over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men. But here are three reasons why United could have the edge.

A certain starter

United’s only out-and-out striker is Edinson Cavani. And it remains to be seen if the Uruguayan will be at the club next season.

Even if he signs a contract extension, Cavani is 34 and injuries are a problem. So having a viable alternative who can grab thirty-plus goals makes sense.

The best United sides under Sir Alex Ferguson had multiple goal-scorers. Solskjaer knows first hand how important that is as he played alongside Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke and Teddy Sheringham.

Yet this United team has more wide attackers than central threats. Haaland will know he can walk straight into this team and that could be critical when it comes to deciding his next club.

The Solskjaer factor

It is no secret that Solskjaer and Haaland have a good relationship. The United boss gave the striker his debut during their time at Molde.

Haaland was only 16 at the time but he quickly impressed.

With 20 goals in 50 appearances, the Norweigan was just getting started. Yet it is testament to Solskjaer’s faith that he thrust the youngster in when most his age could only dream of that chance.

The United boss has made no secret of his love for the striker and it would be amazing if the two reunite at Old Trafford.

The perfect partner

Haaland wants to play with the best. And there are few better than Bruno Fernandes right now.

As good a goal-scorer as the 20-year-old is, he needs players behind him to supply ammunition. And United’s £67.7million man (BBC) is one of Europe’s most creative catalysts.

So far Fernandes has produced 35 goals and 21 assists in 63 United appearances and he would have far more of the latter if his teammates were more deadly in front of goal.

That would not be a problem if Haaland arrives. The striker fully understands the importance of his teammates and he will surely be excited by the prospect of lining up alongside United’s Portuguese superstar.
