According to ESPN, Manchester United could offer players plus cash in exchange for Pau Torres this summer.

Given the financial hit clubs took last season, that is no surprise. United have not avoided that and they will not want to spend more than they have to.

If, as expected, Jadon Sancho arrives for big money, United may be thinking of ways to reduce Torres’s fee.

Here are three United players they could use as makeweights in a deal for the centre-back.

Eric Bailly

The most likely name on this list, Eric Bailly could be offered to his former club this summer.

The Ivorian signed for United from Villareal for £30million (BBC) in 2016. But he has struggled to make an impact in recent years.

Blighted by injuries, the 27-year-old’s chances at United already look slim.

If Torres arrives at Old Trafford, his fellow centre-back could find himself on the outside looking in…or gone altogether.

Bailly is remembered fondly in Spain. So a return to the club where he made his name makes sense for all.

Andreas Pereira

United midfielder Andreas Pereira is surely moving on this summer. A loan move in Serie A never really took off. And now there is talk of interest from Spain.

Pereira has enjoyed two temporary stints in La Liga, impressing during both. So what chance a hat-trick of Spanish clubs for the 25-year-old?

Pereira is not good enough for United. That has been clear for some time. But the arrival of Bruno Fernandes cemented his fate.

He needs a permanent move to really kick on, and he could knock a few million off Torres’s price-tag.

Diogo Dalot

Full-back Diogo Dalot impressed on loan last season. And he will return to United this summer on the back of a surprise Euro 2020 inclusion.

But does he really have a future at Old Trafford?

Many fans hope he does. After all, he is a fine attacking defender once tipped to be the best in his position by Jose Mourinho.

But Aaron Wan-Bissaka has the right-back spot nailed down, while talk continues that Kieran Trippier could join him.

With that in mind, Dalot could well move on. And he would be a fine addition to the Europa League holders if Torres heads the other way.
