Manchester United moved into pole position to sign goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha, 90min reported over the weekend.

The Albania international is a free agent and would be joining to provide competition for David de Gea, with Dean Henderson sent out on loan.

While a move to sign a back-up goalkeeper is never particularly exciting, Strakosha is set to make a dream come true.

“I’m dreaming of the Premier League, since I was a kid,” Strakosha told Fabrizio Romano last month.

Strakosha says he dreamed of Premier League move

Strakosha has spent his entire career under contract to Lazio, having one loan spell at Salernitana back in 2015/16.

Now 27, he has a big chance to make the move he wanted, after a big valuation was placed on him in the past.

Alfredo Pedulla reported in 2019 that Lazio were demanding £35 million for his services.

Last season he made 31 appearances in all competitions and is now ready for a new challenge, which looks as though it may be at Old Trafford.

Former Lazio teammate Felipe Anderson, previously of West Ham, previously named Strakosha in his best five-a-side team of players he had starred alongside.

Felipe Anderson told Soccer AM: “He’s young, he’s growing and improving a lot and I think he will go very far in his career.

“I think he will get to the top because aside from his quality he’s working to improve every day, he has a big responsibility to play in such a tough team and city. He has a great personality and also plays well with his feet, and I like those kinds of goalkeepers.”

A move for Strakosha would free up United to send youngsters Nathan Bishop and Matej Kovar out on loan, who have both travelled with the first team squad on tour.
