Manchester United’s summer move for Casemiro was one of the most seismic deals in European football.

Casemiro left reigning Champions League winners Real Madrid for a new test at Manchester United, to attempt to help restore the club’s former glory.

The midfielder has made a strong start at United so far, joining along with fellow Brazil international Antony.

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva told ESPN, via Fanaticos, that he is pleased to see his international teammates head to the Premier League.

Thiago Silva backs Casemiro

Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva is pleased to see the influx of talent to English football, which he believes will sharpen up his teammates. West Ham also swooped for Lucas Paqueta while Nottingham Forest signed Renan Lodi.

Silva suggests is might not be smooth sailing for the younger players, but backs Casemiro to thrive.

He said: “They are young players, who have put themselves in this situation of having an excellent league to play and be ready for the World Cup.

“Is it a risk? Yes. But if everything goes well, in the way I know they prepare to play, it will work out. No problem.”

Speaking on Casemiro, Silva said: “Casemiro is different. He’s a more experienced guy. He was super adapted in Madrid, he won everything he could, and he wanted to breathe new air.

“I have no doubt it will work. Manchester needed of a guy with his skills.”

Casemiro has not yet started a game for United, with Erik ten Hag easing him in, and reluctant to change a winning team.

His first start will likely come in one of the two upcoming games against Real Sociedad, or Crystal Palace. And once he gets in, he will surely keep his spot in United’s first choice XI.
