‘They are not popular’ – Ruben Amorim backs Ineos plan for Manchester United despite difficult decisions

It’s a difficult time for Manchester United with Ineos trying to clean up a mess left by the Glazers.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos are making difficult decisions at Manchester United.

The club decided it was time to sack Erik ten Hag earlier this season before turning to Ruben Amorim as United’s head coach. Those were costly decisions financially, with compensation packages agreed.

Ineos gave Amorim an ultimatum during negotiations, forcing him to join mid-season despite him wanting to remain at Sporting CP for the remainder of the season.

There have also been more controversial decisions made as Ineos continue their cost-cutting spree at Old Trafford, despite being in talks over a new stadium…

On Monday, United announced that up to another 200 staff members could be made redundant in the latest round of job cuts. This comes after they cut their workforce by 250 people last year.

It is understood that United chiefs are conscious of the club’s financial position after losing £300 million in the past three years.

Ruben Amorim backs Ineos’ vision

Amorim looks beyond the fears of job losses at United by stressing Ineos have a plan to ensure the club has a brighter future.

United fans will demand actions over words, but they will need to be patient for everything to come into place, including a squad rebuild.

All you need to do is look at United’s Premier League position to see that changes will be required in terms of personnel in the squad.

Speaking to reporters at his press conference on Friday, Amorim admitted that Ineos were making unpopular decisions, but explained they are doing it with a long-term vision.

“I see a clear path and I see that from the board also, because they are also doing difficult changes,” said Amorim.

“They are not popular, but they are doing it because they have a vision and I think that is clear.

“But in the future, we need to show some results because you can do a lot of changes, and if you don’t have results, people don’t feel confident and happy. In that is winning games, it doesn’t matter.

“So I think the good thing is that we have a clear path. [Right] now is hard, but we are doing things to achieve success in the future.”

Amorim was made aware of Manchester United problems

The journalists at the press conference were keen to find out whether United caught Amorim by surprise when he took the job.

Amorim said he was aware of the situation before arriving at Old Trafford, but admitted that perspectives can be different.

He continued: “I knew that situation, but then it’s hard because the perspectives can be different. So it’s hard to say if they are honest or not.

“I feel that they were honest, but I need to see things and to feel things myself. So it’s always a difference of opinion in that matter.

“So I knew the situation. I knew that it was a risk, but we are surviving and doing everything. And I think today is really hard. I know but this is going to help us in the future. So I have hope. We will see.”
