Manchester United have seen a second bid for Mason Mount rejected, however there has been a huge clue that they will get their man.
The Athletic have reported that Manchester United‘s second bid for Mason Mount has been rejected.
The bid is believed to be worth up to £50million, consisting of an initial £45m, with an additional £5m in add-ons.
The report adds that an agreement is ‘edging closer’ but is currently not in place, with the Old Trafford hierarchy not willing to improve their offer much more.
This latest bid comes following an initial £40m bid was rejected last week. The reason being that the Blues value the player much higher than that.
Chelsea reportedly countered United’s latest offer asking for a £60m fee with £5m in add-ons.
Mount is reportedly Erik ten Hag‘s top target and is ‘adamant’ that United must sign the midfielder.
Biggest hint yet that United will win battle for Mount
All signs currently point toward an eventual agreement between Chelsea and United. Another improved bid from the Red Devils could likely enough to tempt Chelsea.
The Athletic’s report added that “Chelsea are keen to comply with the England international’s wishes”.
They will also be aware that Mount could leave for free next June.
This is the biggest suggestion yet that a transfer should be on the cards. With just £15m difference, neither side will be willing to scrap a potential deal over such a small number.
Mount is seemingly keen on a move to Old Trafford, looking smitten when quizzed about a potential move at the F1 a few weeks back.
Mount is an ideal number eight for ten Hag to pair up with captain Bruno Fernandes.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see a third and final bid submitted in the next few days. An offer possibly a take it or leave it offer closer to Chelsea’s valuation.
