‘That can’t happen…’ – Norman Whiteside sends demand to Manchester United stars after Anfield draw, the fans deserve it

Manchester United need to back up their impressive performance against Liverpool last weekend.

The Reds drew 2-2 against Liverpool in a hard-fought contest at Anfield.

Lisandro Martinez scored the opener in the second half, but Cody Gakpo’s leveller was followed by a Mohamed Salah penalty. Liverpool thought they had done enough to secure three points before Amad Diallo swept home to stun Arne Slot’s side.

Manchester United showed a degree of desire to win every second ball, and their passing was crisp throughout the contest.

Fans were happy to see the Reds show a significant improvement in comparison to previous performances following a four-game losing streak.

However, the Reds remain winless in five matches across all competitions.

Next up for United is an FA Cup third-round clash against Arsenal at the Emirates.

Norman Whiteside sends message to Manchester United stars

Manchester United legend Norman Whiteside knows what it takes to beat a Liverpool side favoured by the odds.

The former Northern Ireland international received lots of hate at Anfield in the 1980s, where he endured tough battles as a player.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph after United’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool, Whiteside has urged Ruben Amorim’s side to kick on by showing the same passion and desire in every game.

“I want to see the team kick on now,” Whiteside said. “What the supporters want and deserve is that effort, commitment, desire and passion every week and in every game.

“As well as showing heart at Anfield, United played some attacking football and created chances.

“They have set a standard and must stick to it. When United won at Man City last month the hope was that would be a turning point but then they lost four games in a row.

“That can’t happen this time. There is another big game at Arsenal in the FA Cup and I’d like to think the players will be up for that but it’s the matches that come next that will be of interest to me to see how they perform at home to Southampton and Brighton in the Premier League.”

Ruben Amorim is in the process of trying to raise standards at Old Trafford. The one thing he doesn’t want now is another run of consecutive defeats.

Manchester United fans deserve better

With problems existing on and off the pitch, United fans deserve better.

Every manager since Sir Alex Ferguson has been fully supported by the Old Trafford faithful and that will remain the case under Amorim.

Ineos have been criticised by Paul Scholes for not prioritising fans after increasing ticket pricing midway through a disappointing campaign.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has gone from being viewed as a knight with white armour to a penny pincher in the space of a year.

Meanwhile, United are 13th in the Premier League and out of the Carabao Cup.

It’s about time United realised that they’ve got the best, most loyal fanbase in the world.
