Ten Hag turned around Ajax star’s career, says agent, and Marcus Rashford could benefit in the same way

Erik Ten Hag could be heading to Manchester United in the summer, good news for Red Devils fans, not so great for Ajax.

The Mail report Ten Hag has his heart set on United, which should come as a huge boost to the squad’s players who he chooses to keep and work with.

The agent of Ajax star Steven Berghuis has been praised Ten Hag in the Dutch media for the way he has turned the former Watford forward’s career around.

Berghuis, 30, has scored 10 goals this season and provided eight assists since his surprise £4 million move from Feyenoord last summer.

His agent is Guido Albers, who has represented Donny van de Beek in the past. In an interview with De Telegraaf, he praised Erik Ten Hag and the way he has helped his career.

Albers said: “Ten Hag has made Steven important and convinced him that he should only focus on what he helps the team with. Steven can play football very well, he also does that at Ajax and radiates fun.”

His words and the galvanising impact Ten Hag has should not be underestimated. By making football ‘fun’, and helping players to relax, he can help them become the best versions of themselves.

There is one player in particular at Manchester United who needs to get back to having fun on the pitch, and that is Marcus Rashford.

Rashford needs help from Ten Hag

The version of Marcus Rashford we have seen this season has been a troubling one. The forward could be about to lose his place in the England squad, and right now he does not seem to be enjoying his football.

Every movement he makes on the pitch seems laboured, he makes the wrong decisions, and seems to just be trying too hard.

In the past two seasons Rashford has exceeded 20 goals in each of them. This campaign he is struggling to break 10.

Ralf Rangnick has not been able to resolve Rashford’s plight, and it may take an entirely fresh approach from Ten Hag to do so.

The comments from Berghuis’ agent could also be applied to other players, perhaps his former Ajax star Donny van de Beek, or even Cristiano Ronaldo.

An ability to help players reach their full potential is crucial, and Ajax are thriving this season, with Ten Hag at the centre of it.
