A leading Dutch journalist has suggested Ajax’s latest behind the scenes move could be a sign manager Erik Ten Hag is set to leave.
Ajax confirmed this week former striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar has joined the technical staff in a non-playing role.
They are looking to bolster their staff after Marc Overmars left his sporting director role earlier in 2022.

An Ajax insider has claimed the way Ajax went about the hire lends weight to suggestions Ten Hag will be moving on, with the club planning for life without him.
Mike Vermijl told De Telegraaf: “Either he was informed or they talked about it very briefly. But he had no real voice. And that could mean that he is still aiming for a departure after this season.
“It seems to me that you want to have a say in the technical people who come on board.”
United have been strongly linked with hiring Ten Hag as the club’s next manager.
The MEN reported this week the Dutchman is the club’s first choice as it currently stands.
He has been in post at Ajax since early 2018, winning two league titles, two domestic cups, and reached the Champions League semi-finals.
He has done this while playing attractive football and promoting young players, two key traits which United fans look for in any would-be manager.
United sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November and have appointed Ralf Rangnick as an interim manager, with a view to hiring a permanent manager at the end of the season.
