Manchester United have a problem brewing after Erik ten Hag’s latest injury news update.
It was last week when Erik ten Hag explained Aaron Wan-Bissaka had returned to training, before having to drop out of the session at Carrington.
Wan-Bissaka did not make the Manchester United squad to face Aston Villa, and when delivering an injury news update yesterday, the manager gave some bad news.
Ten Hag said the right-back faces ‘some weeks’ on the sidelines, commenting: “Aaron Wan-Bissaka will take some weeks because he picked up another injury in training last week.”

Aaron Wan-Bissaka setback is a major problem for Manchester United
Diogo Dalot has been superb for Manchester United and has now earned a place as first choice right-back. However, there really is no back-up for him.
Dalot has already played in 32 matches this season, and will be due a dip in form at some stage. He had one at the end of October, poor in the Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle, a game which he ideally would have been rotated out for, but Wan-Bissaka was not available.
Manchester United are already down one left-back, with Tyrell Malacia missing all season to date, and while he is making steady progress on his way back from injury, he is not expected back in the first team any time soon.
There are concerns over Luke Shaw’s fitness too. He was substituted at half-time against Aston Villa, and Ten Hag said he was hopeful but not positive that he would be fit to return.
Previously when he was out, Wan-Bissaka would play on the right, and Dalot on the left.
But with Wan-Bissaka out, and Sergio Reguilon‘s loan cancelled, options are thin on the ground.
Victor Lindelof a poor full-back option
Victor Lindelof came on at left-back against Aston Villa. Whether he plays left or right, switching with Dalot, it is not much of a solution playing a centre-back out of position.
Perhaps we will get away with Lindelof there against Luton. And at home to Fulham next week.
Up against Nottingham Forest’s rapid Anthony Elanga in the FA Cup, that does not look so good. Nor the following week when United head to The Etihad to face City.
Wan-Bissaka looks likely to miss all of these games, so United need Shaw to make a swift recovery, and can afford no injuries to him or Dalot.
Former defender Wes Brown told MUTV’s The Debate this week: “You see when Lindelof come on it wasn’t the same, he wasn’t as fluid as Luke, it would be a big loss.”
A lot has been going right at Manchester United lately, but injuries to full-backs has been a consistent theme of the season, made worse by sending out young left-back Alvaro Fernandez.
