Erik ten Hag was happy with Manchester United’s professional and well executed away win over Sheriff Tiraspol.
With a defeat against Real Sociedad fresh in the mind from a week earlier, United’s players knew they needed to get a result in Moldova.
Ten Hag told the club website he was pleased with ‘a really good team performance’, with United winning 2-0 through goals from Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.
This was a good victory to sign off with, heading into the upcoming international break.

Ten Hag picks out three players
There was an aspect of Manchester United’s performance which really impressed Ten Hag, as a sign his coaching is really paying off.
He identified interplay between Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho on United’s left-side as being particularly pleasing.
Ten Hag told the club website: “I think Jadon has so much has potential, he had good pre-season. First he invested a lot and is on his way to getting really fit. It is a process, he scores goal and is in the moment in the season where he is more secure.
“We can play over that left side with Tyrell [Malacia] and [Christian] Eriksen in that triangle, [and] how they moved together, I think they really were a threat for the opponent.”
As Ten Hag points out, he is only just getting started. He is attempting to give Manchester United a clear playing style, to resemble a cohesive, well-drilled team that the players were anything but last season.
United are attempting to overhaul rivals Liverpool and Manchester City. The two teams have built sustained success because they have an identity on the pitch, a defined way of playing.
This is what Ten Hag is attempting to bring to United, and this won’t be an overnight shift. That’s why Ten Hag was so excited and encouraged to see the interplay between Malacia, Eriksen and Sancho, as a sign his plans are beginning to take effect.
The manager has already overseen a defensive overhaul, and the midfield looks far more settled too. United did enough from an attacking perspective against Sheriff Tiraspol, although it would have been nice to see the team really push on in the second half.
With more and more time on the training pitch, Ten Hag’s United side will get better and better and even more decisive and clinical in the final third.
