Ten Hag enjoys fantastic comeback as Pochettino endures awful defeat

Manchester United’s next manager decision is between two potential bosses, Erik Ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino, Sky Sports report.

After this weekend, only one of them was smiling, after two challenging yet very different results. Ten Hag was the happy man.

Ajax come back to win

Ten Hag’s Ajax had a real test of character this weekend. After their Champions League exit at the hands of Benfica, they returned to a high pressure game against Feyenoord.

PSV are just two points behind Ajax in the table, winning their game 4-0, and Ajax had to get three points to maintain the gap at the top. It got off to a tough start with Feyenoord 2-1 up at half-time.

It took until the 78th minute for Ajax to draw level through Dusan Tadic, before Antony scored the winner to make it 3-2 in the 86th minute.

Ten Hag praised his side for turning the game around, quoted by NU.nl: “In the last 30 to 35 minutes we completely wiped out Feyenoord. They were nowhere anymore. My team gave a good reaction and showed spirit.”

Ajax have to keep winning, they know PSV are ready to capitalise on any slip-up, and this made their win was so important.

Tough day for PSG

Mauricio Pochettino’s Paris Saint-Germain had a day to forget. They were beaten 3-0 by seventh placed Monaco.

While PSG still have a 13 point lead at the top of Ligue 1, their early Champions League exit places the manager under real scrutiny.

Sunday’s defeat was the type of result which may accelerate Pochettino’s departure. Even with Lionel Messi absent from the squad, PSG had enough to win this game, with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar starting.

This was PSG’s worst league defeat to Monaco since 1999, the type of record Pochettino did not want to set.

Pochettino blamed the European exit for the poor result, quoted by But! PSG: “I’m very disappointed. The effect of the Champions League has done a lot of harm. The team must break free. This international break must be used to forget and come back in the best way, with the responsibility that we have with this jersey.”
