Ten Hag could regret selling former Man Utd man who creates 3.5 shots per game

Erik ten Hag sold James Garner last summer to Everton, but now a regular for Everton, could Manchester United be regretting this move?

James Garner is a Manchester United academy graduate and was long considered a fine prospect.

However, despite showing his class in the Championship for Nottingham Forest, he didn’t make it at Old Trafford.

But signing for a Premier League club like Everton means he isn’t a failure either with a solid career on the horizon.

But his performances for Everton this season have been excellent, which has made some wonder if a mistake was made in selling him. Especially considering the midfield woes for United.

James Garner has been on-fire for Everton

Garner has been a mainstay in the team at Goodison under Sean Dyche. Seven starts in the league show just how valued he is by the Toffees.

In all competitions he has two goals and an assist, all coming in his last four games. In the three games he got a goal contribution, Everton won.

Garner has been class and according to FBRef his creativity has been underplayed by his assists. He creates 3.5 shots per game, which suggests he is inevitably going to get more contributions.

His versatility is also something we are sure Erik ten Hag would love to have at his disposal. Often Garner features as a wing-back or in midfield, but wherever he plays he is consistent.

With an average rating of 7.24 on SofaScore, Garner’s consistency can be admired and seen clearly.

Will Ten Hag regret the sale?

While he settles into his role as one of Everton’s key men, we do doubt Ten Hag is losing any sleep.

Potentially he regrets losing him for so cheap given his value is sure to sky rocket, but he was unlikely to get a chance under Ten Hag.

Given the role he is thriving in doesn’t exist for United, we don’t think his success would’ve came if he wasn’t sold.

Ten Hag obviously didn’t fancy him as a midfielder, something Dyche also seems to agree with, so it makes sense as to why he was sold. But what a player he could become for Everton.
