Teden Mengi has clinched his exit from Manchester United to Luton Town on a permanent move.

Manchester United announced Teden Mengi has been sold to Luton for an undisclosed fee.

The fee is not believed to be substantial in any way. PA’s Simon Peach reports the fee comes with ‘achievable add-ons & a high percentage sell on’.

Mengi was viewed a couple of seasons ago as one of United’s brightest defensive prospects but has struggled with injuries.

Teden Mengi message

Teden Mengi sent a message on Instagram reflecting on his departure and is thankful for his time at Manchester United.

He wrote: “From signing for the club that I supported at the age 7 to playing for them in the Champions League. It has been an incredible journey over the last 14 years.

“Manchester United is a family and I have been lucky enough to be supported by some of the best team mates and staff possible over the years. It is hard to put into words just how grateful I am to each and every one of them.

“It is tough to leave somewhere that has been such a huge part of my whole life but I am ready.

“Joining Luton Town is an amazing opportunity, it’s time to show everyone what I can do and help the team to be successful in every way possible.”

“I wish everyone at Manchester United all the best in their future endeavours but the show must go on 🚀 Once a red… ❤️”

Teden Mengi is particularly close pals with Anthony Elanga, with the pair playing for Manchester United’s under-21s together.

This summer Elanga quit United for a fresh start at Nottingham Forest, and the forward is excited to see the centre-back sign for another Premier League side.

He wrote in reply to Mengi’s Instagram: “Looking forward to playing against you.”

The two teams face off on October 21, which gives Mengi time to work his way into Luton’s starting XI.

Mengi has previously had loans at Derby County and Birmingham City which were both cut short by injury.

He then suffered an injury on the winter tour of Spain with Manchester United, and was not included in Erik ten Hag’s pre-season plans.

Only 21, the chance to sign for another Premier League side was a good one for Mengi, and we wish him well. His duel with Anthony Elanga will be one to watch.
