Teddy Sheringham tells Marcus Rashford what to do amid exit rumours

Talk that Marcus Rashford wants to leave Manchester United surfaced in the wake of the Manchester derby defeat.

Rashford is United’s golden boy but the timing of the leaks, combined with the standard of his performance in the 4-1 loss, is awful.

It is almost as bad as anything Mino Raiola has put over for Paul Pogba in his time at United and it only deepens the fallout from the weekend defeat.

Legendary United striker Teddy Sheringham was on Monday Night Football and he was asked about the Rashford exit talk.

“I would say to him – he’s a young lad still – knuckle down. Get your head down. Concentrate on making yourself a better player,” said Sheringham.

“Don’t blame anyone else and get yourself back in that first team by hard work. Not by thinking you’re going to go somewhere else and it’s going to be nice and easy. Make sure you get back in that Man United team.”

Elsewhere in the show, Sheringham talked about remaining professional during his time as a United player despite not always being in the team.

Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga were United’s leading contenders for the player of the month award so it is right that they started ahead of Rashford at the weekend.

Ralf Rangnick went for a pair of false nines in Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba, which worked to an extent on the ball in the first half, although it did leave United exposed somewhat in midfield.

The reason Rashford was a substitute for one of the biggest games of the season is because his recent performances have not been good enough.

And when he came on, he did not do anywhere near enough to state his case that he deserved to start. It is tough to argue with Sheringham’s comments, especially coming from someone who has been there and done it.
