Manchester United grabbed a stunning 4-3 win at Wolves on Thursday night with former Premier League winner Martin Keown highlighting thrilling performances from Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo.
La Carrington, you’ve done it again. A seven-goal game for the ages, bookended by fine finishes from two players who rose through the ranks at Manchester United. An enthralling, twisting victory away from home at Molineux – so often the scene of tight, tense 1-0s – made all the sweeter by the contributions of two Mancunians made good.
Marcus Rashford opened the scoring after just five minutes, showing a certain Jadon Sancho exactly how to deal with criticism of his off-field activity. And if Kobbie Mainoo’s reputation was already pretty sparkling, it was positivity gleaming at full-time, the 18-year-old dancing through the Wolves defence before curling home a 97th minute winner that would not looked out of place in a compilation of Paul Pogba’s greatest ever goals.

Manchester United survive scare in Wolves win
“(Rashford) looked on fire at times,” Keown, a three-time Premier League winner with Arsenal, tells talkSPORT (2 February, 10am).
“The youngster in midfield looks a generational player. (Mainoo) really does look the part. Its been a long time since we have seen young players come through at United. The class of 92 were incredible.”
They were indeed. But where we once had ‘Fergie’s Fledgings’, could we soon see ‘Ten Hag’s teens’? Alongside Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho has made quite an impression since bursting onto the senior stage. There are huge hopes surrounding Dan Gore and Shea Lacey too, while Manchester United’s remarkable under-18 side have won a remarkable 14 league games out of 14 in their age group.
‘Incredible’ Kobbie Mainoo
“He is making incredible progress,” Ten Hag said of Mainoo, who only made his first-team debut against Everton two months ago but now has goals in successive United games. “He has great abilities. He’s the modern midfield player.
“He can defend and attack but also he has the physicality to do both ways. He is also composed.”
“We should go up 3-0 or 4-0 (against Wolves) but we didn’t and then, in the end, it is quite naïve. The way we conceded goals shouldn’t happen but then we showed resilience. Especially Kobbie Mainoo. It was a great goal.”
